Pallet Spice Rack

So I'm pretty sure I'm obsessed with kitchen items. Everything from utensils to spices. When I moved into my very first home, over half of my boxes were just from my kitchen. This is when my boyfriend knew I had a problem. Ever since I moved in a year and a half ago I have been reorganizing and trying to find new ways to store things in my tiny new kitchen. This has proven to be quite a challenge. I love all the nifty kitchen gadgets on the market these days, but not all the prices. I quickly realized that my small amount of cupboard space is not nearly enough room for the number of just spices that I have. I also realized rather quickly that what I was looking for is not out there and anything close was too expensive for my budget. I have a budget for my family but I love to get new kitchen items. So I hit a dead end with my spice rack dilemma.

Then, one day, while browsing around on Pinterest, an idea came to me. I have always loved the look of the old pallets renovated and revamped to serve another purpose. Well, normal pallets are way too large to hold just spices so I got a great idea to make my own. I went to the local home improvement store and found the perfect sized lumber. At home I took measurements and checked out the basic design of a pallet and got to work cutting my lumber. Once all the pieces were cut I began to assemble the final product. It was super easy to build since I had created basic plans before I begun. It only took me 2 hours to complete the larger one. Once I was finished I decided to create a smaller one for the other side of my oven. This one took only about an hour since there was a lot less cutting and I had already done it once before. After they were complete I stained them. Once the stain was dry I added the mounting brackets and hung them. Now I have my own custom spice rack that is exactly what I wanted.

Tools required:
Speed Square
Pencil
Saw of any sort
Hammer
Staining pad or brush

Materials:
Lumber (I used ¾ in x 2 ½ in for the middle pieces
and ¾ in x 1 ½ in for the cross pieces)
Nails
Stain (I used dark walnut)

Total cost: About $10

  1. Thanks a lot for providing an useful information about pallet racks and its uses. These Pallet Rack can hold high density storage items, so that it expands the storage space and helps to enhance the production in short period of time. Nowadays pallet racks are used in homes too for storing many items under one place that makes easier to pick the items at right point of time.
